It’s fairly common to have parties in college (or after) that feature wine and cheese. But what do you do with all of the leftover wine corks? Well, you can burn them and use the ash for stage makeup that looks like dirt, but I personally wouldn’t do that on a daily basis. Instead, you can make a (mini) bulletin board out of them!
Materials:
Estimated crafting time: 45 minutes
Directions:
- Using the knife, carefully cut the corks into short cylinders about half an inch thick or smaller. I divided mine in about thirds or quarters. I also recommend cutting on top of a cutting board or small stack of newspapers or magazines. Make sure that the sides are pretty flat. I used about thirteen corks for a 4×6” poster board. If you’d like the cork size to be the same, a ruler can be used. No worries if they’re not identical, though!
- Glue the cork pieces to the poster board in any shape or design you’d like. Wait for the board to dry and make sure the corks dry in place.
- Paint with nail polish (or any other paint) if you’d like. It looks great whether many colors are used, none at all, or even just one color.
- Wait to dry before pinning notes, reminders, pictures, etc.
Most of the office interiors have a similar look. There are the customary work areas that are divided into cubicles and cabins and there are the customary desks with chairs. Of course, the color of the interior differs from company to company and the color is usually based on the company colors. One common thing that you find in all the modern offices is a cork board. This board is put up as a wall of the cubicles but it serves multiple purposes. Apart from the decoration concept, its most common use is as a cork bulletin board.
The biggest advantage of a cork board is that it can be used to pin pages. A cork or a letter board is soft and covered by soft fabric. One can pin sheets of paper to the board. Employees pin different sheets on the board. Some pin useful work information and “to do” lists while others pin office cartoons and motivational quotes. The advantage of using a cork board to pin sheets is that the sheets are in plain view and can be referred to the moment there is a need.
Companies also use framed bulletin boards to disseminate information. A cork bulletin board can be put up in any wall inside the office and circulars, letters and notifications are pinned on to it. A burlap bulletin board is perfect for this work because it consists of a soft cork base with burlap covering. Sheets can be easily pinned on to the board. A display on a cork board easily catches the eye of the employees because of its open view. People gradually get into the habit of glancing over the contents of the board and that is why it is so effective for information dissemination.
Most of the modern interior decorators now use a combination of cork board and whiteboard. While the cork part of the board can be used to pin important sheets, the whiteboard can be used to write temporary information. This combination is especially useful during meetings. Important points and minutes of the meeting can be written down on the whiteboard. Later on, when the contents have been typed and printed, the whiteboard can be cleaned off.
If the management wants to issue general letters to the employees of the organization, cork boards can be used as letter boards. Letters relating to policy changes or impending meetings can be put up on these boards for all to see. Some companies also use framed bulletin boards in their receptions where they can inform their clients and customers about policies and procedures.
A cork board is very economical to purchase and can be used for multiple purposes, including using as a cork bulletin board. With a good cork board, companies can also do some bit of marketing by using the company colors on the cloth cover of the board and also by printing the company logo on it. A cork board is useful for both the employees and customers of a company.
A cork board can be used as a decorator or a cork bulletin board in your organization.
